Typography is the art and technique of arranging type to make written language legible, readable and appealing when displayed.
As you have already gone through the video and understood the importance of Typography and why typography is important in Design. I would like to take you further in this topic to understand more in depth and which will help you to be more creative while designing any creative design.
Different elements of typography:
- Fonts and Typefaces :
- A typeface comprises many characters of varying weight and sizes.
- Typeface refers to creating the text style such as Arial and Helvetica.
- A typeface is a family of the fonts related to the typeface.
- Fonts are about the width and height of a typeface and refer to its style.
- A font refers to weights, widths, and styles of a typeface and is a graphic representation of text characters.

2. Leading:
- Leading the vertical space we see between each line of words.
- Known also as letter spacing, tracking is the space we see between text characters.
3. Tracking:
- The distance between the two lines of text is the leading value. Mostly it is more than the font size
4. Kerning:
- Kerning is the space left between characters and letters.
Types of Fonts:

- Serif Typefaces : Serif typefaces are called “serifs” in reference to the small lines that are attached to the main strokes of characters within the faces
- Sans-Serif Typefaces: Sans-Serif typefaces is one that does not have extending features called “serifs” at the end of strokes.
- Display Typefaces: Display typefaces are probably the broadest category and include the most variation. The main characteristic is that they’re unsuitable for body copy and are best reserved for headlines or other short copy that needs attention drawn to it.
- Script Typefaces : Scripts are based upon handwriting, and offer very fluid letterforms. There are two basic classifications: formal and casual. They’re common for very elegant and elevated typographical designs, and are unsuitable for body copy.

People admire the good typography. It’s important to pick up the right typography. Your typographic palette helps to tie all communications together, from the copy on your website, direct mail through to your logo; creating brand consistency and memorability.
